Webinar recap: Digital Building Logbooks for a Circular and Affordable Built Environment
On 27 May 2025, the Demo-BLog EU project hosted a dynamic online discussion about unlocking the power of Digital Building Logbooks (DBLs) for circular and affordable built environments.
The session brought together experts from across Europe to explore how DBLs can bridge the gap between policy ambitions and daily practice in construction, renovation, and building management.
Moderated by Zia Lennard (R2M Solution), the event featured insights from:
- Zsolt Toth (BPIE), who outlined the policy context and stressed the urgent need for a robust data infrastructure to support the circular economy and affordable housing.
- Jo Bronckers (Foundation for International Blockchain and Real Estate Expertise), who delved into the business case for DBLs, the value of interoperability, and how collective innovation can unlock value for all stakeholders.
- Simon Duindam (Re Use Materials), who shared lessons from the Dutch Demo-BLog pilot, highlighting the financial and social benefits of DBLs for deconstruction, material reuse, and affordable housing.
Topics included the challenges of fragmented data, opportunities for value creation, the need for common data standards, and practical pathways to accelerate DBL adoption across Europe. Panelists emphasised that DBLs are not just a technical tool, but a strategic enabler for a more sustainable, equitable, and cost-effective built environment.
