Zsolt Toth and Sriraj Gokarakonda from BPIE have published a paper on the role of Digital Building Logbooks (DBLs) in improving information management, decision-making and transparency throughout the building lifecycle and across the building value chain.
A key finding is that large-scale implementation of DBLs could deliver significant economic benefits, with a cost-to-benefit ratio of between 2 and 9, depending on the number of functionalities included. The study highlights the need for greater policy coherence, better data alignment and a common EU framework to overcome fragmented data systems and support the wider adoption of DBLs.
The paper also proposes a multi-layered framework for DBL development, which could help accelerate the transition towards a more sustainable and digital built environment.
