Insights from Demo-BLog’s last General Assembly

On 18 November 2025, Demo-BLog partners gathered in Brussels to review progress as the project enters its final year, share lessons learned from the five pilots, and explore pathways for the Digital Building Logbook (DBL) ecosystem beyond the project’s conclusion.

The agenda covered:

  • Completion of key tasks and deliverables, pilot demonstrations progress, and impact assessment
  • Project highlights and impact stories from all partners
  • Exploitation strategies: business case factsheets and developing EU replication guidelines
  • Final conference planning (stay tuned for more news later this year!)
  • Exploring networking and continuation opportunities beyond the Demo-BLog project
  • A deep dive into the Cirdax pilot

Key reflections that emerged include:

  • Data integration unlocks impact: High-quality data from diverse sources enables tailored advice and better decision-making, as demonstrated across all five pilots who are successfully connecting multiple databases and developing innovative protocols.
  • The European Strategy for Housing Construction now reflects DBL objectives in two building blocks:
1: securing access to recycled materials
    2: accelerating digital permitting procedures
3: marking significant policy traction for the project.
  • Common insights across all DBLs:
  • Data validation: A significant common challenge with solutions such as blockchain being explored.
  • Funding models: Vary from fully private (CLEA, CHIMNI) to largely government-supported (WoningPass).
  • User engagement: All platforms aim to increase long-term user interaction and provide continuous value.
  • Governmental data access: Varying levels of success; advocacy and strategic partnerships are essential for long-term sustainability.
  • Interoperability: Can the DBLs integrate with national building databases or other EU initiatives (e.g. Smart Readiness Indicators)?

Looking Ahead

Partners explored several options for sustaining the DBL ecosystem beyond the project, including establishing a Federation of DBLs or association across countries, creating a decentralised system where logbooks can connect and align, and collaborating with existing networks such as the Building Digital Twin Association.

The final project event is targeted for Q4 2026  – so watch this space for more news!

Demo-BLog continues to demonstrate that Digital Building Logbooks are not just technical tools but catalysts for ecosystem change, policy influence, and cross-sector collaboration in accelerating Europe’s building renovation wave.
